The Rapala X-Rap Haku lure could be described as a next generation jerk as its construction combines a hard jerk-like shell with a hook rig that is familiar from soft-bodied lures, thus bringing together the best features of these two lure types in a unique manner.

The body of the Rapala X-Rap Haku lure has a groove on its underside, which houses a 3R System Titanium Release rig (100 lbs.) with two VMC Coastal Black hooks. The hooks are placed on the body of the lure similarly to traditional fixed hooks. The rigging wire is protected from weeds and trash within the recess. When a fish bites down on X-Rap Haku, the attachment on the tail is triggered releasing the hook rig from the body. Now the angler is directly connected with the fish, without the weight of the lure coming between them. This allows the lure to keep a better hold on the pike during the fight, as the body of the lure does not act like a lever or pendulum like with traditional jerks. The rig release is designed such that it won’t open from lighter snags and will instead only trigger when the fish attacks the lure.
